Medina of Essaouira

The Medina of Essaouira is the historic heart of the Atlantic port city, laid out in the late eighteenth century under Sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Abdallah. Its whitewashed houses, blue doors, commercial streets, fortified walls and sea-facing bastions reflect a planned trading city linking Morocco with Europe and sub-Saharan Africa.
