The National Museum occupies a fortified complex that served the Al Qasimi ruling family, then the police, before conversion into a museum. Archaeology, ethnography, weaponry and Julfar galleries trace settlement, maritime trade, pearling and political conflict across one of Arabia's longest-inhabited regions. A visitor can use the collections to connect individual objects with larger changes in Emirati life: oasis farming, pearling, dhow trade, household work, education, government and the transition after oil. Read dates and provenances closely and compare reconstructions with original artefacts, photographs and oral testimony.
