Umm an-Nar Tomb at Shimal
About this place
The Umm an-Nar tomb at Shimal belongs to the Bronze Age tradition of circular communal burial structures found across the Emirates and Oman. Its construction and grave goods place northern Ras Al Khaimah within the social and trading networks of the third millennium BCE. The site rewards a slow visit because low walls, tombs, soil changes and scattered structures can be easy to overlook. Use interpretation panels and nearby museums to connect the remains with agriculture, metallurgy, seafaring and trade linking southeastern Arabia with Mesopotamia, Iran and the Indus region. Stay on marked paths, never remove pottery or stone, and avoid climbing. The landscape itself is part of the evidence, showing how water, mountains, desert and coast shaped settlement over thousands of years.
