Bom Jesus and Sameiro Sanctuaries
Overview
A full-day hillside route combining the Bom Jesus complex and Sameiro Sanctuary. Explore Bom Jesus do Monte and the monumental stairway; choose the stairs on foot or the funicular for the ascent. Sameiro is about 3 km away by road, so plan a bus, taxi or other transfer. Allow roughly 6–8 km of hilly walking including the steps.
Day-by-day itinerary
1Day 1 — Bom Jesus and Sameiro Hillside Loop
- Start at Bom Jesus do Monte and visit its sanctuary. Ascend or descend the 573-step stairway on foot, or use the funicular as an alternative. Transfer about 3 km by road to Sameiro Sanctuary; return to Braga by bus or taxi.
