A balanced three-day route across central Portugal, using rail or short regional drives between Coimbra, Aveiro and Viseu. Each day is dedicated to one city and a compact cluster of three nearby highlights, with transfer time kept separate from sightseeing.
Day-by-day itinerary
1Day 1 — Day 1 — Coimbra university & old town
- Explore the historic university quarter in the morning, then descend through the old town toward the river. Keep the three visits within the centre and allow time for the steep lanes.
2Day 2 — Day 2 — Aveiro canals, art nouveau & salt heritage
- Take the train from Coimbra to Aveiro and keep the day within town: walk the canals and art nouveau streets, then visit the salt pans or maritime museum without rushing between distant stops.
3Day 3 — Day 3 — Viseu cathedral, museum & old town
- Travel onward to Viseu for a quieter inland day. Visit the cathedral and nearby museums on foot, then finish with a relaxed walk through the historic centre; keep any out-of-centre transfer optional.
