Évora Outskirts: Cartuxa and São Bento Viewpoint
Overview
A relaxed two-day excursion beyond Évora’s walls, separating sites in opposite directions to avoid backtracking. Day 1 visits the Cartuxa Monastery exterior, about 3 km east of the centre; Day 2 goes to Alto de São Bento, roughly 4 km west. Use a car, taxi or local transport; walking the full distances is not recommended.
Day-by-day itinerary
1Day 1 — Cartuxa Monastery
- Travel east from central Évora to the Cartuxa Monastery exterior. Allow time for the grounds and return to town by car, taxi or local transport; roughly 6 km round trip.
2Day 2 — Alto de São Bento Viewpoint
- Head west to Alto de São Bento for open views over the Alentejo landscape. Plan a short viewpoint visit and return by car, taxi or local transport; about 8 km round trip from town.
