The Portuguese ramparts
The Portuguese ramparts
About this place
The ramparts that surround the Medina of Assilah date from the time the Portuguese took the city in 1471. These ramparts, built by Alfonso V of Portugal in the 15th century facing the Atlantic Ocean, feature a cannon defense zone. They are well preserved following the rehabilitation of the Medina in 1989. Still today, the Portuguese ramparts contrast with the whiteness of the houses and are considered an tourist attraction that should not be missed, especially in summer.
