Mendoubia Palace and Garden
About this place
The former Mendoub Palace was the headquarters of the power represented by the Sultan during the years of the Tangier International Statute. The palace was once the space of the Legation of Germany, where Kaiser Wilhelm II held his speech in 1905, which triggered a series of crises with France, culminating in the Conference of Algeciras in 1906. The Mendoubia houses a commemorative space dedicated to the memory of the liberation: an open-air space where the city's oldest "Ficus benghalensis" (Banyan Fig Tree), more than 600 years old, is located!
