The small socco represents an icon of the bohemian spirit of Tangier. It is also known to be "the main theater of the world" and is located in the very heart of the Medina, exactly where the Roman forum used to be. A real center of attraction of the city since the 19th century, this small square is also a symbol of modernist architecture and is the meeting point of the main streets and landmarks of the ancient city. And in its cafés, such as the Fuentès, the Tingis or the Central (dating back to 1813), several famous writers of the 20th century experienced, as Truman Capote said, "a state of freedom".
