Villa Harris Museum
About this place
The Villa Harris Museum is a contemporary art museum, which presents in its exhibition, three main periods of the pictorial movement in Morocco. The first is that of the fascination of Western painters for the light, color and hospitality offered by the natural, urban and social landscapes of Morocco. This section features works by several painters, including Delacroix, Jacques Majorelle, Edy Legrand, Claudio Bravo and Jacques Veyrassat. The second period focuses on the first Moroccan painters to have worked with European artists, such as Mohammed Ben Ali, R’bati, Mohammed Ben Allal, and Mohammed Hamri. Finally, the third period covers the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and announces the affirmation of Moroccan artistic modernity. Located in the Malabata district, this building, which belonged to a British journalist, Walter Burton Harris, who died in 1931, had been neglected for years. Today, this space, surrounded by a large garden, offers visitors the opportunity to admire a series of works unveiled through an exceptional artistic journey.
