Hili Archaeological Park

About this place

Hili Archaeological Park contains remains of Bronze Age and Iron Age villages, wells, agricultural infrastructure and monumental tombs. The reconstructed Hili Grand Tomb represents the Umm an-Nar period of the third millennium BCE, when oasis communities participated in long-distance exchange while developing increasingly complex settlements. The site rewards a slow visit because low walls, tombs, soil changes and scattered structures can be easy to overlook. Use interpretation panels and nearby museums to connect the remains with agriculture, metallurgy, seafaring and trade linking southeastern Arabia with Mesopotamia, Iran and the Indus region. Stay on marked paths, never remove pottery or stone, and avoid climbing. The landscape itself is part of the evidence, showing how water, mountains, desert and coast shaped settlement over thousands of years.
