Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum
About this place
The Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum houses a large private collection in a fortress-like complex at Al Samriya. Its holdings range from Islamic art, manuscripts, carpets, weapons and coins to fossils, traditional Qatari objects and hundreds of historic vehicles. The breadth reflects one collector's effort to preserve regional and international material culture, while the setting outside Doha gives space to compare transport, craft and domestic objects across periods. A tourist can use the displays to connect individual objects with the larger changes that reshaped Qatar: pearling and maritime trade, family and domestic life, the arrival of oil, state formation and rapid urban growth. Allow time to read labels and compare materials, dates and provenances instead of viewing the collection only as decoration. Temporary exhibitions and access arrangements can change, so checking the venue before travelling is sensible.
