The Great Mosque of Assilah
About this place
The Great Mosque or Al Masjid Al Aâdam of Assilah is considered to be the oldest and largest mosque in the city. It was built within the ramparts of the Medina on the site of a Portuguese church by Sultan Moulay Ismail (reign 1672-1727). Built on an area covering 900 square meters in front of the Kamra Tower, the mosque is immaculately white. It has a spacious, airy and luminous space, a part dedicated to ablutions and an old Medersa that has been converted into shops. During centuries, Al Masjid Al Aâdam has undergone several works of extension and restoration. The latest renovation was carried out in 2018.
