Sagrada Família
About this place
Construction began in 1882, and Antoni Gaudí took over the following year, transforming the church into his most ambitious project. Its sculptural architecture combines religious storytelling with forms inspired by nature. Compare the façades to see how generations of builders have interpreted the design. Gaudí worked on the project until his death in 1926 and was buried in the crypt. Construction continued after the loss of some original plans during the Spanish Civil War. The basilica therefore tells two linked stories: the vision of one architect and the long effort to interpret and carry that vision forward.
