Al Shindagha Museum occupies restored houses near the mouth of Dubai Creek, the area where the ruling family and prominent merchants lived. The galleries interpret the creek, perfumery, community life and the growth of Dubai, using historic buildings to connect maritime trade with the modern city. A visitor can use the collections to connect individual objects with larger changes in Emirati life: oasis farming, pearling, dhow trade, household work, education, government and the transition after oil. Read dates and provenances closely and compare reconstructions with original artefacts, photographs and oral testimony.
