Jumeirah Archaeological Site preserves part of a settlement active during the early Islamic period, with houses, a mosque, market areas and a caravanserai on a route linking Oman with Iraq. The remains demonstrate that Dubai's coast participated in regional trade many centuries before the modern port city emerged. The site rewards a slow visit because low walls, tombs, soil changes and scattered structures can be easy to overlook. Use interpretation panels and nearby museums to connect the remains with agriculture, metallurgy, seafaring and trade linking southeastern Arabia with Mesopotamia, Iran and the Indus region. Stay on marked paths, never remove pottery or stone, and avoid climbing. The landscape itself is part of the evidence, showing how water, mountains, desert and coast shaped settlement over thousands of years.
