Musée Yves Saint Laurent

About this place

The Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech opened in October 2017 as a tribute to the legendary French fashion designer who found endless inspiration in Morocco. Yves Saint Laurent first visited Marrakech in 1966 with his partner Pierre Bergé, and the city became his second home and creative sanctuary. Unlike many designers of his era, Saint Laurent systematically archived his work from the very founding of his couture house in 1961, preserving prototypes, accessories, sketches, and documents that form a unique heritage collection. The museum, designed by the French architectural firm Studio KO, houses this extraordinary archive — over 5,000 haute couture garments and 15,000 accessories spanning forty years of creativity. The building itself is a work of art, with its terracotta brick exterior echoing the textures of Marrakech and its interior designed to evoke the elegance of a couture salon. Located just steps from the Majorelle Garden, which Saint Laurent and Bergé saved from destruction in 1980, the museum celebrates the profound dialogue between the designer's revolutionary aesthetic and the colors, light, and forms of Morocco that shaped it.
