Tempio Malatestiano

About this place

The Tempio Malatestiano officially Cathedral Basilica of Santa Colomba is the unfinished cathedral church of Rimini, Italy. Originally named for Saint Francis, it takes the popular name from Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, who commissioned its reconstruction by the famous Renaissance theorist and architect Leon Battista Alberti around 1450. Santo Colomba refers to Columba of Sens. As you explore, compare the building itself with its decoration and later additions. Differences in materials, forms and imagery can reveal successive periods of patronage, making the visit a way to understand how religious places evolved over time.
