Rouen Cathedral
About this place
Rouen Cathedral developed over more than eight centuries, and its varied towers make that long history visible in the skyline. Early Gothic, Flamboyant and Renaissance work coexist within the same monument. Claude Monet later made the façade famous through paintings exploring changes in light, adding an important chapter in modern art history. Pause outside before entering and notice how shadows change the appearance of the carved stone. The building rewards attention both as a medieval religious centre and as an object repeatedly reinterpreted by architects, restorers and artists.
