Al-Wasaa Square

The origin of the name of this square comes from the first expansion that the city experienced during the sixteenth century in what is called the neighborhood of El Balad. It is a rectangular courtyard, also known as "Boughafila" square, in reference to the plant that is found in this square that surrounds it. There is also the oldest café in the city, which dates back to the middle of the century, as well as a police station, which was originally the largest hotel in Tetouan in the nineteenth century, not to mention the headquarters of the oldest club in Morocco, which dates back to the 17th century, and was a meeting place for merchants, notables and important visitors to the city. It is a historical square par excellence, because in one of its corners is the corner of Abu Abbas Sebti, founded by the leader Abdel Karim bin Zakoura in 1771. Today, the square is experiencing significant activity and crossing to the Great Mosque and the squares and the large garden and the Kasbah.
