Bab Toute
About this place
The construction and the name of this fountain can be associated with one of the most famous doors of the city. It is Bab Toute in its incomparable geometrical form in the whole city built by the chief, Hajj Mohamed Ben Omar Loukach. - It is a canal with its three basins, a depression where animals and cattle, small and large, can drink. The shapes of its basins are horseshoe arches inlaid with tiles, of the type "superimposed squares" and "khatam and yasmina". Above this canal, there is an inscription on the green zellij, it is about verses written by the poet Moulay Issa al-Jaziri, the intimate friend of the above-mentioned chief, in which are written the name of the builder of this water piece and the date of its construction.
