Dar Ghailan

About this place

The construction of this house dates back to the end of the 16th century. This house was attributed to the Ghailan family when Lieutenant Colonel Lakhdar Ghailan entered the reign of the al-Naqsis family in the middle of the 17th century. The dispute ended with the peace agreement between the two reigning families, which later turned into marriage. The house still retains all its artistic architectural elements. It is a house with a courtyard and four semicircular columns, influenced by the smoky architecture that the Moriscos brought to Tetouan since the beginning of the 17th century, in the middle of it is a fountain - Khassa - made of authentic limestone with a water system. The house consists of two floors, upper and lower, still retaining the style of the old house that has no roof, as it is directly open to the sky. It is located near the Merinid Kasbah, which dates back to the 13th century AD.
