Foundouk Qaa
About this place
One of the oldest hotels of all time, it is attached on one side to the Kasbah Marinia/Mandariah and overlooks on its main gate the Qustalla square and one of the squares of the great Gharsa. Foundouk Qaa was dedicated to the sale of special food products such as honey, smen, vinegar, olive oil and others. Perhaps the word Qaa is used to designate Moroccan hotels specialized in this type of products, as is the case in the city of Fez, Marrakech and Meknes. This hotel continued to provide this service in addition to a specialty of its own, represented in the sale and purchase of slaves and maids from its inception in the seventeenth century until the beginning of the last century to be transformed now into a place of sale of used clothing.
